Sage 50 v Sage 200

Upgrading your accounting software can seem like a daunting task and one that for many of us is often at the bottom of the to-do-list. However, for businesses to grow their software must constantly evolve to support the increase in activity and help streamline your processes.

Here are five key reasons we think businesses need to upgrade from their current Sage 50 package to either Sage 200 or Sage 300, thus helping to streamline and automate your business processes and save you time and money.

  1. Business turnover and/or number of staff.

This is an easy benchmark for us to start with, if your business has a turnover of over £1 million (up to a maximum of £50 million) and/ or employ between 10 – 200 staff you probably need to consider upgrading your Sage 50 package to Sage 200, and if your business deals in multiple currencies then an upgrade to Sage 300 will provide you with a great solution.

  1. If the business is handling over 100,000 transactions.

Sage 50 has an upper limit of 100,000 transactions, so if your business is forecast reach or exceed this limit an upgrade to Sage 200 is required as it can increase the risk of performance issues. It’s also worth noting that if at all possible it’s best to make the transition from Sage 50 to Sage 200 before reaching this upper limit to ensure that business output is not effected during the change over.

  1. You need to manage stock across multiple locations.

Sage 50 doesn’t allow you to manage stock in more than one location, meaning expansion to other locations could be limited or delayed. Sage 200 supports an unlimited number of locations and addresses which is great for growth and will help to minimise errors as one system is compiling all  the data from multiple locations.

Sage 50 does not allow for any customisations, this means that it is not able to adapt to your specific business processes and for many growing businesses this can be a setback. Sage 200 can be customised and will provide you with solutions that are tailor made to fit your business.

  1. Advanced reporting and analysis.

Sage 200 has a three-tier nominal ledger, along with a dedicated BI tool which provides you with in-depth and sophisticated reports, meaning you have better visibility of exactly what is happening across the business at any one time.

Don’t let your business growth be hampered by software that you have outgrown, if any of these points resonate with you then perhaps it’s time to upgrade? Sage 200 will provide you with a platform that enhances growth and over time will produce a fantastic return on investment. The Enterprise version also comes with integrated CRM and eCommerce functionality to completely streamline and automate company processes should they be required.

Sage 200 and Sage 300 cannot be purchased directly through Sage, these solutions are only available through selected Business Partners like us here at Oakley Global.
