This is an easy benchmark for us to start with, if your business has a turnover of over £1 million (up to a maximum of £50 million) and/ or employ between 10 – 200 staff you probably need to consider upgrading your Sage 50 package to Sage 200, and if your business deals in multiple currencies then an upgrade to Sage 300 will provide you with a great solution.
Sage 50 has an upper limit of 100,000 transactions, so if your business is forecast reach or exceed this limit an upgrade to Sage 200 is required as it can increase the risk of performance issues. It’s also worth noting that if at all possible it’s best to make the transition from Sage 50 to Sage 200 before reaching this upper limit to ensure that business output is not effected during the change over.
Sage 50 doesn’t allow you to manage stock in more than one location, meaning expansion to other locations could be limited or delayed. Sage 200 supports an unlimited number of locations and addresses which is great for growth and will help to minimise errors as one system is compiling all the data from multiple locations.
Sage 50 does not allow for any customisations, this means that it is not able to adapt to your specific business processes and for many growing businesses this can be a setback. Sage 200 can be customised and will provide you with solutions that are tailor made to fit your business.
Sage 200 has a three-tier nominal ledger, along with a dedicated BI tool which provides you with in-depth and sophisticated reports, meaning you have better visibility of exactly what is happening across the business at any one time.
